As in the past years, the ”Adam Martin” Auditorium of Tenerife is again hosting part of the Tensamba Festival. In this 8th edition we will have the opportunity to enjoy one of the most important concerts:

"Paquito D’Rivera" with "Trio Corrente" group

The famous Cuban saxophone player, winner of 9 Grammies, together with the trio Corrente, will delight us with different rhythms like bossanova, jazz and counterpoint.

The trio Corrente, a well known instrumental group from Sao Paolo, counts with Edu Ribeiro (drums), Fabio Torres (piano) y Paulo Paulelli (double bass). All of them are musicians with a successful professional background, who rapidly gained in fame due to their musical virtuosity and ability.

They have experimented with Brazilian styles, from Tom Jobim to Pixinguinha, from samba to bossa nova and from classics to their own creations. This group has also worked together on tours with other renowned artist like Rosa Passos, Toquinho, Ivan Lins, Leny Andrade, John Alf, Paulo Moura, João Donato and Yamandú Costa.

Presentation of the film “O Homem que Engarrafava Nuvens”. Telling the story of Denise Dummont ´s journey, finding out about the life of his father, who was an expert of “Baião”, which is a typical rhythm of the Brazilian northeast
Tensamba Festival Opening Night. 29th April, 22h. Atlantico Café.
The night of presentation counts with the performance of Dj Watts Riot (United Kingdom), an amazing character who mixes hip-hop, rock, dub and electronic sounds. He has worked on recordings for Ice-T, Body Count, Bad Brains, Kinghorse, Ben Harper, Soul II Soul, Primus, Iggy Pop, Snoop Dogg, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Lucy Pearl, Robert Fripp and Smashing Pumpkins.

Musical Documentary Film Cycle. 4th May, 20.30h. TEA –Tenerife Espacio de las Artes.
The interesting film “Fabricando Tom Zé” directed by Décio Martos Júnior will be shown. This documentary includes interviews with Tom Ze´s old colleagues like Caetano Veloso, Gilberto Gil, or David Byrne, among others.

Fabiana Cozza. 5 May, 20.30h. Casino of Tenerife.
This admired singer, sample of the most purist samba style, has been invited by the greatest Brazilian stars to participate in international tours and their recordings. Sadao Watanabe had her on a tribute tour to Baden Powell. Apart from that, she has taken part in 3 special shows of Leny Andrade and in a recital in honour of the French singer, Edith Piaf, together with the jazz Symphonic Orchestra of Sao Paolo.

Continuing with the biographical documentaries, the remarkable “Herbert de Perto” directed by Roberto Berliner and Pedro Bronz is an accurate self-portrait of the leader of “Paralamas do Sucesso”. It represents the best tribute to this excellent artist with an unusual compelling personality and who is not ready to retire yet.

"Madera de Choro". 14 May, 21:00h. Auditórium of El Sauzal.
The canary “Madera de Choro” group created in Tenerife in 2006 as a result of a casual meeting: Naudo Rodrigues, Brazilian musician settled on the islands since 1993, and three Canary musicians (José Pedro Pérez, José Ángel López and Jorge Hernandez) interested in the rhythms and songs that he brought from across the Atlantic. Thus began this “musical journey” back and forth between Tenerife and Brazil.

Musical Documentary Film Cycle. 18th May, 20.30h. TEA –Tenerife Espacio de las Artes.
Screening of “Uma Noite em 67” directed by Renato Terra and Ricardo Calil. This documentary was assembled by Record TV channel around a music festival which made history in 1967. At this Festival young Brazilians artists competed among themselves and later became icons of the MPB. You will be amazed by the funny, passionate and unrecognizable Caetano Veloso, Chico Buarque, Gilberto Gil in “Os Mutantes” film, the winner Edu Lobo with Marília Medalha, and Roberto Carlos, among others.

Paquito D´Rivera & Trio Corrente. 21 May, 21.00h. “Adán Martín” Auditorium at Tenerife
Paquito D'Rivera, the renowned Cuban clarinettist, winner of nine Grammy Awards will perform with the Brazilian trio, highlight instrumental group of the scene in São Paulo. Trio Corrente is an outstanding group of São Paulo instrumental scene consisting of Edu Ribeiro (drums), Fabio Torres (piano) and Paulo Paulelli (bass). All of them are multitalented musicians that carry the virtuosity to extremes. Their work experiments with all the Brazilian music styles, so their harmonies and contemporary arrangements will fascinate you.
